Graphic Designer

Vanguard, one of the world's leading investment management companies, seeks a talented, creative graphic designer to provide intermediate-level design services for the web and other media, including intranets, CD-ROMs, presentations, and marketing collateral materials. The primary focus of this position is on web projects of mid- to large-scale scope and complexity.

Working with technical writers, internal business clients, project managers, and other designers, you'll create and maintain highly appealing and readable web pages, site layouts, and graphic elements that capture Vanguard's corporate brand identity and marketing image, as well as departmental marketing objectives. Your work should follow established design and style standards for web and paper, templates, style sheets, backup file systems, and file-naming conventions. You should also use established brand standards to differentiate various investment sites by color, typography, etc.

You'll create prototype elements for new or enhanced pages, present storyboards, participate in peer design reviews, and complete the final designs and layouts. As pages are created, you'll check PDF files, charts, and tables for accuracy. You'll also convert materials from other media to online-compatible formats and provide design services for other computer-based and paper media.

You'll be expected to follow regulatory and Corporate Communications standards on the use of logos, name and copyrights. You should also comply with Information Security and IT policies and procedures, especially those regarding quality and productivity standards. To ensure that productivity remains high, you'll mentor and train less experienced staff and resolve issues elevated to you.
REQUIREMENTS


- Bachelor's degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Three to five years' business experience, including three years' design, graphic design, or user-interface design experience; Web, corporate, or agency design experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Flash design and development.
- Strong communication skills.
- Knowledge of RIA technologies preferred.
- Knowledge of the financial services industry.
- Intermediate knowledge of the following graphic design practices and concepts:
Abstract conceptualization and visualization skills
User-centered design
Color
Graphic style guides
Typography
Print design considerations
- Intermediate knowledge of one or more of these IT platforms:
Macintosh
Microsoft Windows NT
Web
- Intermediate knowledge of current versions of the following software:
Adobe Photoshop
HTML/DHTML
Java Script
Microsoft Office Suite
- Intermediate knowledge of current versions of the following software preferred:
Lotus Notes
Macromedia Dreamweaver
