Director, Management Systems Software Development

Overview
The Director of Management System Software Engineering takes end to end ownership of developing and maintaining software products including implementing a world class software development process. They will provide hands-on technical leadership and management for the company’s software development, integration, and maintenance efforts. They will interface directly with Product Line Management and other members of the operations organization to ensure that the requirements are thoroughly understood. They will propose, initiate, and lead the software team in program efforts utilizing well defined processes that help advance the company’s initiatives related to developing and continuously improving the software product quality.

Responsibilities
Manage the day to day activities and provide technical leadership for assigned areas.
•Hands on visionary technical leadership and management for the management systems software engineering organization. Utilizing objectives to drive the organization
•Drive via direct management and collaboration with senior management team, other managers, directors and engineers throughout the development, test engineering and PLM organization to effectively identify and resolve technical test issues. Take ownership for driving these issues to closure.
•Determines the strategic direction, and defines operational objectives for the system software engineering organization, its method, processes, approaches and results achieved.
•Defining and management of metrics and KPIs. Drive the appropriate development and application of quality metrics programs.
•Drive teams to effectively identify and resolve technical issues.
•A decision maker on administrative, technical, and operational matters. Defines and implements strategic policies within the organization.
•Regularly serve as a resource for others within the company who need your understanding and expertise. This includes Test Engineering, Development, Operations, PLM, Marketing, and Sales.
•Become familiar with developments in the field of Software Quality via trade journals, conferences, or educational opportunities.
•Provide critical expertise and innovation in setting and leading software project direction.
•Define efforts and resource requirements in setting appropriate schedule and quality guidelines for the system software organization
•Continually improving the accuracy of effort and schedule estimates
•Regularly lead and promote more effective development practices and continually look for better ways for the organization to develop quality products. Championing proposals and work in conjunction with senior engineering management to drive the changes into the organization. Implements strategic policies within the organization.
•Identifying issues and risks and defining mitigation plans

a.Driving teams to develop creative workarounds for critical customer issues, with an eye toward improving the customer quality experience
a.Provide an objective assessment of product quality with PR deferral recommendations and provide objective recommendations for handoff of software to test.
b.Defining and driving multi-disciplinary teams in the definition, development, and delivery of complex products from inception to customer acceptance meeting delivery and quality targets
c.Provide regular status and progress towards milestones with program leaders and senior engineering management.

Responsible for the development of management systems software.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidate should have over 10 years experience in developing management systems for complex infrastructure class service provider equipment for the datacom/telecom industry.
Ideal candidate will have managed the development of management system for cellular telephony equipment with from element management systems, configuration management systems, interfacing with standard service provider management systems (corba) – management of outsourced development a plus.
