Director, IT Operations

The primary objective of this role is ensuring the operational integrity of MeadWestvaco's global IT computing environment. As part of Global Business Services and in close collaboration with the Business groups ensure IT operational (including Applications production operations) and infrastructure delivery is aligned with the business strategy balancing IT investments, service agreements and technology risks at levels consistent with senior management's business objectives. This role provides executive leadership, vision, strategy and direction for IT operational and infrastructure delivery across the company and the immediate staff. Additional role of this position is the relationship management of outsourced operational and infrastructure services.

Responsibilities include but are not limited :
- Set vision, strategy, direction, provide leadership and communicate / champion objectives and change

- Participate in a broad range of strategic and tactical planning activities related to the application of technology in addressing business opportunities and issues

- Provide direction and oversight in the delivery of service, overall responsibility for activities associated with managing, operating, quality assurance and recovery of IT computing services

- Ensure the daily production operations in applications and infrastructure are effectively monitored, run smoothly with minimum defects on a continual basis.

- Work with business units and all appropriate departmental resources to establish service level agreements that achieve the proper balance of cost, service level and risk, monitor compliance and report on going performance.

- Collaborate and recommend emerging technologies that have the potential for significant future business results aligned with MeadWestvaco business and technology strategies

- Continuously assess, mentor, and guide the staff to ensure a strong professional organization capable of meeting the current and future needs of the corporations.

- Plan and manage the annual departmental budget.

- Facilitate business understanding with suppliers and drive on-going partnership benefits and opportunities (internal & external)

- Chair Governance of outsourced operational and infrastructure services ensuring compliance of all IT service providers, enforcing consistent policies, principles and portfolio management

- Identifies and manages technology exceptions to the enterprise standards

- Maintain focus on technology as an enabler for
business units to achieve annual business contract objectives. Drive global integration and involvement across the enterprise with all IT functional areas. Function as a communication and escalation point for executive and upper management with respect to IT services and support.

Required Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor Degree or higher preferred, 10 plus years of experience in a technology environment, 5 or more years working in Leadership role within a major corporate operation

- Excellent leadership skills both strategic and tactical

- Excellent knowledge of information technology infrastructure and applications, strong understanding of business and manufacturing operations

- Strong experience in managing global operations

- Excellent problem solving , dispute resolution and interpersonal skills

- Excellent Customer Service and relationship management skill

- Excellent skills in written/oral communications including group facilitation, presentation, and communicating across entire spectrum of an organization

- Excellent understanding of IT Service Management framework and processes

- Experience to drive change, direct others, and influence the organization outside direct line of authority

- Working experience with Business processes such as Supply Chain Management

- Working experience with outsourcing and the governance of such relationships

- Ability to converse with business management and IT management on issues

- Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks appropriately

- Internal knowledge of MeadWestvaco's business is helpful

- Ability to form line of sight from vision to strategy to architecture to design to operations

- Can effectively and successfully deal with ambiguity.
