SUMMARY
The Director of Business Systems role is to plan, coordinate, and supervise all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of organizational information systems and software applications. The Director of Business Systems is also responsible for maintaining, supporting, and upgrading existing systems and applications through best practices and the appropriate staffing and management of a technical team. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide his/her development team on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical information and software systems.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
·Manage the development and deployment of new applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.
·Analyze documentation and technical specifications of any new application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality.
·Ensure that development projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.
·Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
·Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings.
·Ensure that any new software integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
·Lead pre-testing phase of development by evaluating proposals in order to identify potential problem areas, and make the appropriate recommendations.
·Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of new software programs and applications.
·Liaise with network administrators and software engineers to assist with quality assurance, program logic, and data processing.
·Provide technical leadership to project managers and programmers working on development project teams.
·Develop, distribute, and coordinate in-depth end-user reviews for modified and new systems or applications.
·Design, develop, and install enhancements and upgrades to systems and application software.
·Review and analyze existing applications’ effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
·Anticipate and prepare for future growth and exceptions.
·Identify and resolve program errors.
·Manage and provide direction for the application development team in support of business operations.
·Compile and maintain inventory of company software and systems assets and their corresponding contracts/agreements.
·Liaise with company’s software suppliers for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies.
·Develop and communicate training and documentation for end users, hold clinics as necessary, and other user-related activities.
·Cultivate, disseminate, and enforce functional policies, procedures, and quality assurance best practices.
·Where necessary, negotiate contracts with software and service providers.
·Where necessary, prepare, establish, and monitor budgets.

REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS

·10 years or equivalent direct experience in software development, managing applications and/or programming design and systems management.
·Proven experience in SDLC overseeing the direction, development, and implementation of software solutions.
·At least 3 years of experience in Retail IT
·Direct, hands-on experience with automated software and system management tools.
·Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
·Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures, project lifecycle models, etc
·Ability to conduct research into application management and development issues and products.
·Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
·Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
·Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
·Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and deliver solutions with no/minimal negative impact to the business.
·Strong customer-service orientation.
·Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
·Excellent listening and interpersonal and negotiation skills.
·Highly self-motivated and directed.
·Keen attention to detail.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
·Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design or computer science, and/or not less than 10 years equivalent work experience.
·Certifications in project management.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
·Excellent written and oral communication skills.
SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY SKILLS
·Extensive experience with core software applications, including merchandise and warehouse management, inventory control, EPOS, sales audit, financials and HR.
·Technically fluent in development and scripting languages, including some or all of the following: C, C++, PLSQL, PowerBuilder, Java, SQL, Visual Basic, Access, ASP, .NET.
·Knowledge of database design and file management techniques, such as Oracle, Informix, Sybase or MS SQL Server.
·Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including UNIX, MS NT, Windows, IIS, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Project, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Visio and SQL.
·Knowledge of network hardware, protocols, and standards, including LAN and WAN technologies.
