The director will be responsible for building and maintaining a quality driven Data Warehouse and Reporting team. His/her group will be responsible for the enterprise data warehouse system through its entire life cycle, from planning and analysis, to development, through implementation and support.Candidates should have strong technical and architectural background that are looking for the next generation of their career path. They should have a proven track record of data warehouse project deliverables, ideally in Oracle, Oracle Financials, Business Objects, and Informatica technologies. Understanding of data marts and avoiding common operational data warehouse shortfalls is desired.This position will require a balance of strong rooted technical background, against a demanding business with an appetite for an ever increasing data and reporting needs. Knowing what is feasible given various timeframe constraints is crucial. A significant portion of this candidates time will be closely partnering with the business on helping them architect, design, implement and support their data needs that deliver a positive return and insight into the performance of the business.Potential candidates should also have the capacity and drive to take on additional Director level IT responsibilities as needed to support the continued growth and evolution of a strong IT team and the business.Success Attributes:

Principal Accountabilities & Authority:
The director will lead the group through vision, hands-on know how and good interpersonal skills. He/she will set the agenda and priority for the group. A close working relationship with other managers in IT and with the business will insure timely resolution of issues and continuous productivity improvements. Specific duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:Manages all aspects of DW development, maintenance, usage, performance, and operation.
Must have previous experience in verifying the physical database star schema promotes efficient data loads and end-user queries.
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory capability managing 6-10 co-workers and consultants.
Ability to gauge the effectiveness of the extract, transformation, and load processes populating the data warehouse.
Confirms that fulfillment of information requests meet quality and timeliness standards.
Mentors staff on organization including recruitment, performance appraisals, front-end tool supported analysts, data quality analysts, and data access development. Nurtures, develops and leads staff’s through career development within the context of their aptitude and goals.
Lead team (not supervise) through his/her own technical knowledge and 1st hand work experience. Drive the execution of projects within time-lines and with high quality. Able to monitor and maintain accuracy of data being reported. Capable of minimize outages and recovery times with well practiced contingency procedures. Strong application delivery methodologies such as RUPP and RAD.
Ability to analyze issues, gather supporting data and develop practical solutions via system and applications logs if necessary.
Ability to mentor 1st level managers in areas of system architecture, diagnostic process, and holistic reporting and publication. Build a top notch team through recruiting and mentoring existing staff.
Participate with other managers to develop company policies, processes and plans. This would include supporting production system across multiple geographic locations, negotiating contracts with vendors, etc.
Communicate often and clearly with all stake holders of the company. Works with hardware and software vendors, consulting firms, and internal business and technology partners to meet project goals and milestones.
Procures, schedules, and coordinates work among DW co-workers/consultants, including matrix managing co-workers from other technology areas.
Maintains project plans and reports on project progress and issues.
Demonstrated ability to rapidly comprehend and translate a retail organization’s information requirements into a plan of DW/MIS deliverables that meet the business need.
Expert in all aspects of managing DW/MIS applications: requirements analysis; formulating/evaluating alternatives for data acquisition and access; data quality analysis, operations, and training.
Strong understanding of DW/MIS technologies/best practices: extraction/transformation/load (ETL); data quality; managed query/reporting; traditional/relational/desktop OLAP; and data mining.
Proficient in business case preparation/project management supporting concurrent initiatives.
Experience managing complex multi-year technology projects, working closely with vendors and internal business and technology partners.
Working knowledge of Oracle, SQL, UNIX, and Sun Solaris required.Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelors or Masters preferred, with 7-10 years retail experience with some years in DW.Experience:
The candidate should have had first hand staff experience supporting a 24x7 mission critical data. The ideal candidate is someone who has a track record of building a department to support an infrastructure for business of $500M to $1B.Travel:
Limited travel requirements. Typically technical conferences once or twice per year.
