Database Administrator - Washington, DC

Standard Job Description:
Implements and maintains smooth operation and physical design of databases. Conducts performance tuning of indexes and databases in general. Reviews database design and integration of systems, provides backup recovery and makes recommendations regarding enhancements and/or improvements. Maintains security and integrity controls. Formulates policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management, and monitors transaction activity and utilization. May develop stored procedures and/or triggers.
Typical Minimums:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 10 years of professional experience; or 8 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.
Specific Job Description:
The application DBA focuses on database design and the ongoing support and administration of databases for core business applications. The application DBA is an expert at writing and debugging complex SQL and understands the best ways to incorporate database requests into application programs. The application DBA must also be capable of performing database change management, query optimization and some performance tuning. Work effectively as part of an Application Development team and a Production team to ensure database availability, quality, integrity and recoverability Support development of a multi-tier application Perform all database installations including support of product launches, schema changes, etc Design, test, implement and document User management and security policies Support and Build new databases Maintain database operation to ensure production databases are operating at maximum efficiency, including consistency checks, defragmentation, monitoring procedures and scripts, performance management, data integrity and accuracy, change control management Monitor database logs Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues Design, Test, and implement Custom one-time on-demand reports Identify changes to the data model and analyze the impact Track performance and capacity data and extrapolate to identify potential bottlenecks and expectations Provide clear statistical analysis and evaluation of Production Operations on a continual basis Design and implement automated process flows. Knowledge of IBM's Websphere J2EE and web-based services application server desired Candidate is required to possess or successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
