Database Administrator, Permanent Position

•Administer, maintain, develop, and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of company databases.

•Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to database performance, accessibility, functionality, and data integrity.

•Provide technical expertise on data issues and independently performs analysis, design, testing, and monitoring of databases across multiple platforms, technologies, and computing environments.

•Review, plan, and evaluate database systems. Troubleshoot database systems and recommends improvements. Perform documentation/project tracking and management reporting. Provide tactical and strategic input on overall database planning and related projects. Coordinate with vendors for product acquisition and service support.

•Manage assigned projects, investigating alternatives, evaluating vendors, testing products, and recommending solutions.

•Advise/Supervise System Administrators during new DBMS installations. Installs DBMS upgrades and patches in test environments and works with System Administrators to update production environments.

•Perform and verify database backups and recovery. Inspect and monitor server and application configurations to ensure system integrity.

•Participate in the validation/qualification of new or modified infrastructure to ensure compliance with Company standards. Must consider the impact of new software/hardware installations on existing systems. Create and follows test plans.

•Lead and direct the work of others as a project leader.

•Other related duties as assigned to meet departmental and Company objectives.
REQUIREMENTS
•Expert systems management knowledge in Microsoft SQL and Oracle.

•A thorough understanding of technical procedures, software specifications and general methods of database management systems.

•Strong problem solving skills.

•Superior communications skills, including the ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing.

•Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the practical and theoretical usage and administration of database management systems (e.g., Oracle, DB2, and MS SQL Server).

•Ability to integrate applications, Internet access, and external access to a private network.

•Comprehends network architecture, topology, protocols, and maintenance.
•Ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.

•Must be able to manage Information Technology projects and be familiar with project planning tools and techniques.

•Requires the ability to meet pressured deadlines and time constraints.

•Must have excellent presentation, oral communication, and writing skills.

•Must be able to document technical and end-user procedures.

•Must possess excellent problem analysis/problem solving and decision making skills.

•Knowledge of interfacing to mid-range computers (iSeries) desirable.

•Ability to work overtime and weekends, when needed.

•Should be able to work with minimal supervision.

•Should be able to lead, influence, and motivate others.

•Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience and professional certification.

•Five years experience in database administration roles.

•Two years of experience at the senior or lead level.

•Microsoft and/or Oracle database certifications required.

•Need to have 75% Oracle and 25% SQL Server. The need to have both skill sets is no exceptions.
