Data Resource Administrator X2

Works independently to provide a wide variety of data administration services. Responsibilities encompass all aspects of data administration work, including consulting on the design and maintenance of logical and physical data models,
assisting in planning, analysis and design of new databases, creation of physical and logical data models, generation of RDBMS specific DDL from these models and support of team members in the capacity of a data modeling tool expert.

Other responsibilities include analysis of requests to ensure that good data modeling design standards are followed and that data base objects meet
Hewitt standards. Uses clear communication skills to work with requesters to resolve all issues and questions that arise as part of the process of applying requests. Researches and resolves all problems that are encountered when SQL is applied. Tests and documents new tool releases and patches. Associates in this position do not perform off-hours support work, however periodic structure maintenance is scheduled during nonbusiness hours.

Responsibilities
Data Model Design and Consulting
Provides consulting on logical data modeling and normalization techniques as well as database design and model management techniques, including data warehousing
Applies an in-depth understanding of referential integrity and specific database objects such as triggers, primary keys, identity columns, etc. when developing data models.
Gathers and analyzes application business needs and requirements
Provides design support for models and databases housed in various RDBMSs
Analyzes problems and works with a modeling tool to develop solutions for technical requirements
Stays current with latest RDBMS developments and utilizes new features during data model design in order to create data models and databases which accommodate more efficient and economical performance and implementation
Mentors others in designing data models that incorporate best practices and meet the needs of the business.

Database Structure Maintenance and Consulting
Independently applies structure changes to development and QA database environments
Resolves all problems that may be encountered when applying the DDL
Provides structure maintenance consulting support for junior team members

SQL Analysis
Interprets complex SQL statements in database objects such as views, triggers, functions and stored procedures
Analyzes frequently used complex SQL statements to determine effectiveness for the application
Assists with SQL development whenever a need for a view, trigger or stored procedure is identified during data model analysis
Recommends changes to the SQL or database in order to optimize performance

Data Modeling Tool Evaluation and Utilization
Conducts product evaluation, including research, analysis and communication with the vendor
Uses a data modeling tool to create physical and logical data models and generate reports
Works with a data modeling tool to generate DDL for all RDBMS platforms supported at Hewitt

Data Management Consulting
Works with internal clients to understand their business needs
Proposes technical solutions from the logical and physical data modeling perspective to meet business needs
Analyzes technical data model and data base requirements

Technical Issue Resolution
Demonstrates solid problem-solving techniques, specifically relating to data modeling tools
Coaches others to build problem-solving skills
Works with vendor on issue resolution
Analyzes, tests and implements latest modeling tool product service packs and patches

Project Management
Manages large initiatives independently. Creates documentation that is clear and concise. Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
May coordinate activities of a small number of associates on a specific project
Serves as subject matter expert
REQUIREMENTS
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

Work Experience
Minimum 5 years in Information Systems, preferably in
systems development or database administration.
Familiarity with a data modeling tool is required.
Experience with database design and data warehouses is required.

Technical/Functional Knowledge
In-depth knowledge of a large number of areas/applications and how they integrate.
Strong consulting and organizational skills.
Current knowledge of latest RDBMS developments.
Experience mentoring others in designing effective data models and developing technical documentation.
Strong background in data analysis.
Ability to design and implement processes that benefit the entire team.
Ability to provide strategic vision for processes, products or projects.
Understanding of concepts behind a systematic approach to solving technical problems.
Strong technical documentation skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience in using ERwin or another physical data modeling tool.
Experience with migration, conversion and query/reporting tools.
