Computer Operator (NOC)
Primary Responsibility:
To meet or exceed the division’s computer service requirements as defined in the National Operations Center (NOC) Service Level Agreements (SLA).
Essential Functions:
Must be able to demonstrate full operational knowledge of iSeries commands and execute them with minimal supervision. This includes; identifying hardware components and peripherals that can be attached to an AS/400, identifying the basic library and object structures of the AS/400, using the OS/400 menu and command interfaces to perform system functions. Startup and shut down the AS/400, locate, create, change, and delete objects, Initiate, monitor, and control jobs, send and display messages, backup and restore objects using current tape library system, and configure local devices.
Identify, analyze, and initiate corrective actions for system, device, job, application, and authority-related problems.
Identify the actions required to handle error messages and System Reference Codes (SRCs).
Utilize the PTF process: place PTF orders, load, apply, display, remove, process cumulative PTFs, etc.
Develop a backup strategy for system and user objects.
Save objects allocated by other applications.
Organize, copy, and override data base and device files.
Create and use journals and journal receivers.
Identify the system values that affect the computing environment.
Provide assistance and support to distribution center and corporate users.
Coordinate with division users to resolve operational problems (answer messages, loading forms, communication line errors, etc).
Must maintain good attendance
Maintain safe work practices.
Maintain safeguards of confidential company information.
Other duties and special projects as requested.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of one (1) year previous experience with computers involving operations, communications, maintenance issues and upgrades. LAN/WAN experience a plus. Knowledge of P/C computer software programs (Microsoft Office products, Lotus, etc) required. Must be able to work a variable (rotating) shift schedule if necessary and be available to be on-call as scheduled.
