Business Intelligence Specialist
The Homeland Security Solutions Division currently has an opening for a Business Intelligence Specialist.
JOB DESCRIPTION:Scope: The Business Intelligence Specialist will develop, implement, and maintain business intelligence applications for accessing, analyzing, and presenting business information. Implement and administer business intelligence tools, develop business-oriented metadata definitions, and provide expertise in the development of business intelligence data source for use by different types of information consumers.
Design, develop and maintain portlets for inclusion in end user portals using the BI tool. Install and configure the BI tool administrative client, repository, web and application servers. Configure the entire environment. Troubleshoot security and web access issues. Establish and administer users, roles and workgroups. Work with designers, modelers and DBAs to ensure that the data warehouse reflects end user and BI tool requirements.
Develop and maintain multiple BI dashboards that show the status of business metrics as defined by ICE end users. Translate end-user requirements into finished working queries, reports and other BI tool artifacts. Work on large complex projects, which cross over multiple business functions. Meet with appropriate technical staff, end users, and senior management. Provide mentoring to team members as appropriate.
Act as a liaison with the vendor for upgrades and support issues. Translate business needs into data analysis and reporting solutions. Perform data warehouse lifecycle functions, including requirements gathering, design, develop, tests implement, and maintain BI tool products. Design, configure, test, and implement OLAP solutions, drill down/through paths, and reports.
REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS: B.S. in Computer Science, engineering, or related technical discipline. Extensive, directly applicable experience may substitute for the academic degree requirement.
Five or more years’ experience with BI tool report and business oriented metadata (semantic layer) development, two or more years’ experience with portlet development, two years’ experience developing and maintaining OLAP or OLAP-like analysis artifacts, and five or more years’ experience working with various analytic dashboard methodologies, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with all products in the BI tool suite. Experience with Data Warehousing, OLAP, ETL, and data cleansing. Proven knowledge of dimensional modeling. Strong SQL – PL/SQL skills.
Proven track record implementing Business Intelligence projects from requirement definition through Production deployment.
Strong analytic and problem solving skills with the ability to address relevant facts, identify alternative approaches, and recommend/supply solutions to management. Exceptional communication and teamwork skills are required.
U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret level clearance are required.
DESIRED SKILLS: Five years experience with Oracle rdbms, AIX, Oracle Designer, Informatica, Trillium.
