The Assistant Director Software Development manages the operational activities of programming, systems analysis and software development professionals. This position requires extensive knowledge of the client area's functions and systems, application program development alternatives, and system development life cycle. Responsibilities
Manage the continual upgrading of procedures and equipment to maintain currency with technological progress, economic change, and business needs. Manage the training and development of staff members to develop their skills and maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in their area of responsibility. Prepare the annual budget and manage expenditures in order to operate within approved budget guidelines. Directly and indirectly supervise staff members in the development, implementation, and support of applications to meet the client's business requirements. Recommend the selection of and be responsible for the performance management of staff members. Consult with clients in the analysis of short and long-range business requirements and recommend innovations which anticipate the future impact of changing business requirements. Coordinate activities across units such as database, telecommunications, operations, technical support, etc. Ensure the coordination with clients so that the use and implications of the application are understood when implemented into production. Develop, recommend, and ensure adherence to policies and procedures. REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: The incumbent of this position must have:Education:
a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline, or equivalent work experience; an advanced degree in Computer Science preferred
Experience:
approximately 8-10 years of experience in systems analysis and application program development The person filling this role must have extensive experience in managing large scale products. They must have: Strong communications skills, both written and verbal and must be comfortable interacting with non-technical clients. Strong analytic and problem solving skills. Strong teaming skills and be comfortable leading multi functional teams. Experience with Websphere Portal Server project implementations desired Experience with Knowledge Management Systems desired Technical knowledge of: o Lotus Notes o Websphere Portal Server o SQL Server Experience with the RUP project management methodology required
