Application Enterprise Architecture Mgr (Java)

Job SummaryThe Application Enterprise Architect Manager is accountable for the direction, performance, and ongoing health of the architecture within the Application domain. The Enterprise Architect Manager will integrate information from Safeco’s business strategies and portfolios, input from business and IT customers, and requirements from architects in multiple sub-domains in the Application domain to develop the strategic direction and architecture that meet the functionality, integration and quality requirements for the Application domain. This role is accountable for driving technology evaluation and selection for the Application domain. The Enterprise Architect Manager is accountable for overseeing the design of reusable technical assets and standards to support solution development, as well as consulting on strategic projects on how to best leverage these assets and standards. Additionally, they are accountable for mentoring and growing their team of sub-domain architects in the Application domain. Support Business Portfolio Management by providing architectural and strategic consulting in the areas of IT Strategy, architecture principles, technology lifecycles, best practices, etc.
Business Solution Architecture
Support solution development by consulting on how to best leverage standards, best practices, assets and frameworks
Oversee a team of Application Enterprise Architects that will work with the Solution Architects to ensure solutions fit within Safeco’s architecture
Solicit feedback and requirements from Solution Architects and incorporate them into Application domain roadmaps, ensuring the required components and services are in place to support solutions
Architectural Leadership <Primary Focus>
Oversight for all sub-domains within Application domain
Responsibility for setting and communicating the vision and direction for the entire domain
Responsibility for rationalizing plans and direction across their sub-domain
Responsibility to provide support to the Chief Architect for the development of a broader Architecture Vision and IT Strategy
Lead the development of technology plans/roadmaps that address current state challenges and how to achieve a target future state
Oversee a team of Application Enterprise Architects that will work as Solution Architects (see separate job description) for high priority, strategic IT projects in the Application domain
Oversee the definition and development of services, components, standards, assets and frameworks required to support Safeco’s business strategy (e.g. design patterns, reusable components)
Serve as point of escalation, review and approval for key issues, significant projects and decisions
Responsible for oversight of the following sub-domains

Supervisory Responsibility: 1-10 Application Enterprise ArchitectsEducation and ExperienceAdditionally, the following education/experience is strongly preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree or Graduate Degree
10+ years of technical architecture experience
8+ years of related technology experience
3+ years of application development or IT infrastructure management
2+ years of IT in strategy and planning alignment with business strategies
