POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting Relationships: The Unit Manager reports directly to the Director of Nursing.

Position Summary:
As a member of the health care team, the Unit Manager provides high quality direct and indirect nursing care to residents. Functionally supervises assigned LPNs and CNAs pursuant to the objectives and policies of the Nursing Services Department.

Principle Accountabilities:
A. Complete nursing assignments and provide direct and indirect resident care.
1) Supervise CNAs and LPNs.
2) Ensure patient hygiene, treatments and mobilization are performed.
3) Perform other resident care duties including, but not limited to, change sterile dressings.

B. Assure that the nursing process is complete.
1) Assess the patients upon admission.
2) Develop plan of care.
3) Reviews plan quarterly and as needed.

C. Facilitate change of shift.
2) Receive report from off-going nurse, as needed.
3) Give report to staff at beginning of each shift, outlining specific needs for residents.

D. Assist with needed documentation in conjunction with LPN.
1) Assure completion of weekly summaries.
2) Daily charting of incidents, including falls, injuries, skin tears, etc.
3) Phone in lab or x-ray reports.
4) Daily Medicare charting.

This position has authority to provide counsel and discipline including suspension of assigned LPNs & CNAs; completes employee evaluations.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Unit Manager has regular contact with Residents, family members, Physicians and all members of the I.D. Team.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
1) Requires sitting, standing and frequent walking.
2) Pushing or pulling Medication, Treatment and crash carts.
3) Lifting Residents.
4) Working environments often consists of frequent interruptions.
REQUIREMENTS
-Minimum Position Requirements-
1) Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
2) Valid Virginia License.

Knowledge:
1) Must demonstrates basic medical surgical nursing skills, effective written and verbal communication skills.
2) Ability to lead staff members.
3) Must be CPR certified.
