Transplant Technician II

Interviews and obtains medical/social history from physicians, nurses, family, and parties familiar with and/or acting on behalf of deceased.
Explains tissue donation options and provides family/next of kin opportunity to make informed decision.
Evaluates and determines donor suitability based on medical chart review, history assessment, and astute physical assessment of body.
Ensures accurate and complete documentation of all phases of donation.
Obtains and secures blood and tissue samples.
Surgically retrieves eyes/corneas, skin, bone/connective tissue, or cardiovascular tissue.
Performs cosmetic reconstructive surgery.
Processes (cleans, cuts, rinses, etc.) tissue grafts in manner that ensures minimal alteration to structure.
Prepares and/or coordinates donor sites with procurement of tissue grafts in accordance with policies and procedures of Transplant Service Center and standards of American Association of Tissue Banks and Eye Bank Association of America.
Provides evaluation and assembles documentation of quality, structure, size, shape, sterility, and quantity of grafts.
Ensures instruments and supplies are prepared according to operating room standards and Transplant Service Center policies and procedures.
Packages and distributes tissues for shipment using methods appropriate to storage requirements for each type of tissue being shipped.
Assists with educational programs; promotes awareness of tissue donation.
REQUIREMENTS
Must have experience with tissue or organ donation to be considered.

Bachelor’s degree in basic science such as Biology or Chemistry or Nursing, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, or Physician’s Assistant certification or licensure (or eligibility for) as appropriate to degree, and completion or progression to job specific certification preferred.
Completion of two years of college to include at least six (6) hours in basic science and one (1) year experience as Transplant Technician I or equivalent; or High School graduation or GED equivalent and completion of LVN, ORT, Mortician, or MLT program and one (1) year experience as Transplant Technician I or equivalent.
