Staff RN -HemodialysisExemption: Non-ExemptJob Status: Full-timeLocation: Reno, NVSummary: The Staff RN in Hemodialysis is responsible for the delivery of all dialysis related nursing services for the End Stage Renal Disease patient.
Qualifications:
1. Current RN license in the state of practice.
2. CNN desirable.
3. Two years experience providing nursing care of acutely ill patients (Med/Surgical experience preferred)
4. Current CPR certification. Successful completion of basic EKG interpretation.
5. One or more years of dialysis experience preferred.
Job Functions:
Patient Care
1. Perform patient assessment: vital signs and all other parameters of the ESRD patients, review dialysis orders, determine general physical & mental condition of patient through observations and interview, assist in determining compliance to dietary or medication regimen, document compliance to dietary or medication regimen, document observations appropriately.
2. Provide chronic hemodialysis therapy: formulate a dialysis plan for ultrafiltration, initiate dialysis via various accesses, observe all safety measures, and monitor patient vital signs applicable to ESRD patients. Able to administer medications, fluid therapy and blood products or other appropriate treatments per physician orders. Document activity appropriately in patient file.
3. Perform analysis of patient data: assess and monitor status of vascular accesses, review lab work, patient assessments, and report any relevant changes or abnormalities to physician and or the Facility Administrator.
4. To deliver quality care and treat patients in a considerate, respectful manner.
Planning, Coordinating & Organizing
1. Ability to prepare and monitor dialysis machines and systems.
2. Ability to maintain dialyzer records, and prepare dialysis water treatment system for use according to established procedure.
3. Ability to prepare dialysis delivery systems for use according to established procedure.
4. Inform technical staff of any malfunctions.
5. Obtain machine and water cultures as requested.
6. Maintain patient medical records for appropriate documentation.
Quality Assurance
1. Ensure charges for patient dialysis are completed according to DAVITA policy.
2. Complete flow sheets and charge vouchers for patients.
3. Ensure availability of supplies.
4. Participate in quality assurance cost containment programs.
5. Compliance with DAVITA policy and procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations for patient care and services. (Medicare, OSHA, or other governing agencies.)
6. Compliance with state or federal regulations of the Injury Prevention and Safety Training Program.
Communication & Patient Service Skills
1. Review pre and post dialysis care with patient.
2. Discuss health concerns with patient. Review with physician and/or Facility Administrator.
3. Provide ongoing patient education.
4. Administer patient quality care in a considerate, respectful manner.
Other Duties as Assigned
1. Participate with orientation and training of new staff members.
2. Perform other duties as assigned.
3. Attend staff meetings and educational activities.
4. Ability to lift 35 pounds, and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, and use full range of body motions.
5. Willing to work overtime with little or no notice.
6. Understand and follow DAVITA patient and employee policy and procedure.
