Staff Pharmacist - Specialty Pharmacy

Full-time Staff Pharmacist position with national specialty pharmacy servicing nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Basic Function:
Upon reviewing and interpreting prescriptions, compounds and accurately dispenses medication, while maintaining efficient workflow to provide timely delivery. Maintains inventory and record keeping for narcotics and similar drugs.

Staff Pharmacist Responsibilities:

Reviews and approves prescriptions to be filled by pharmacy technicians according to State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
Works with Pharmacy Technicians in performing the "final check" of filled prescriptions to ensure order accuracy and timely delivery.
The Staff Pharmacist works with patient medical information to conduct Drug Utilization Review (DUR) on all prescriptions and reviews clinical edits to ensure there is no adverse drug interaction.
Works with appropriate pharmacy technician in reconciling Controlled Substances Log(s) with inventory on hand and prescriptions dispensed to comply with state and federal regulations.
Works with Chief R.Ph to ensure that implementation of cost containment strategies (Pre-pack, Front-End Process, Cycle-Fill, etc.) occurs on all dispensing and procurement activities.
Provides clinical expertise by responding to drug-related questions and concerns initiated by internal (Technicians, Nursing Staff) and external (Directors of Nursing, Administrators) customers.
Works with pharmacy management to provide guidance, direction and training to pharmacy associates.

Position Requirements:

Education/Learning Experience
Required:Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of Pharmacy
Skills/Knowledge
Required: Knowledge of federal and state regulations, knowledge of drug interactions, computer data entry skills.
Licenses/Certifications
Required: CA RPh license.
Behavior Competencies
Required: Detail orientation, technical competence, analytical ability, planning/organizing,oral communication and teamwork
