Under close supervision and within established departmental and hospital policies and procedures, the student is responsible for performing a variety of research related duties. The purpose of our study is to see if air pollution affects the cardiovascular system and if it affects the cardiovascular system of people with diabetes or coronary artery disease. The study will also look to see if traffic-related particle pollution affects the cardiovascular system more than other kinds of pollution. In our first phase we hope to enroll 45 well-controlled type 2 diabeticsPRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1.Conduct medical record reviews, to determine prescreening eligibility for study.2.Will help research staff in all phases of screening for the study. That will include putting up flyers, bringing pamphlets to clinics, and all aspects of recruitment mailings (letters, checking mail merges, stuffing envelopes, address labels, tracking returned letters and opt out cards).3.Will do prescreening interviews of study participants to determine if they meet eligibility criteria. The prescreening of participants can be done via telephone or in person.4 Will attend regular meetings with the Principle investigator.
REQUIREMENTS
Currently a third or fourth year medical student, or enrolled in final years of a nursing program or Physician Assistant program. Will also consider college juniors or seniors with a science background.
