STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER (JOB # 14044)

Be a catalyst for growth and change. Innovative health plan seeks forward-thinking, energetic public relations professional to reinvigorate its community and media relations programs in western Washington. Regence BlueShield is part of Regence, the Northwest's largest affiliation of not-for-profit health plans.

This new position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in redefining a corporate brand and developing strategic partnerships with community organizations.

The ideal candidate enjoys working both independently and as a member of a multi-state team. Previous experience working in the Puget Sound market preferred. Exemplary written and oral communication skills required. At least 8 years experience in media relations, community relations and/or public relations is essential.
Develop and implement strategic public relations plans in local markets, as well as part of a multi-state team
Provide strategic communications counsel and support to corporate projects (i.e., product launches, medical services, pharmacy, etc.)
Develop relationships with reporters, editors and nonprofit organizations within assigned communities
Assist with the development and distribution of strategic communications materials, including media news releases, Op-Eds, employee news articles and talking points
Serve as corporate spokesperson
Pitch stories to news media
Negotiate community partnerships
Write and/or edit internal employee publications
REQUIREMENTS
Combine your media relations experience with the following skills:
Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related field
Previous experience in the health care or financial industry preferred
Ability to mentor less experienced strategic communications staff members
Proven ability to generate earned media
Ability to develop and implement strategic public relations plans locally and regionally, leveraging media relations, community relations, advertising and internal communications tools
Ability to negotiate community partnerships with key Regence constituents (nonprofit organizations, community groups, news media, etc.)
Proven ability to establish good working relationships with reporters and editors
Demonstrated event planning and project management skills
Proven ability to write strategic, creative communications pieces (press releases, newsletter articles, etc.)
