Research Nurse-Temporary Position

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position will need to identify potential study participants, abstract patient medical records, and prepare summary reports. Position also entails data collection for a multi-center study. Abstractor will work at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD participating in the study. Make and maintain good contacts with medical records staff. Tasks include working closely with hospital staff to develop an organized work plan to identify patients without disturbing the hospital’s medical records department normal functioning. Screening patients for eligibility using predetermined criteria. Preparing and transmit weekly summary reports of sample selected to date. Obtaining tracking information for those sampled and then sending on to coordinating center at Johns Hopkins research staff. Transmitting abstracted data to coordinating center at Johns Hopkins. Should be able to operate a laptop computer.
REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A BSN or RN is required. A minimum of three years related work experience is required. Must be familiar with trauma, orthopedic surgical procedures, nursing, medical terminology and coding, medical records abstraction and computer proficiency. Ideal candidate will have excellent people skills. Military and/or trauma background desirable. Must be able to work independently and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail. Candidate must be highly organized and be able to adhere to research protocol. Ideal candidate will be computer proficient. A minimum of one year of data collection experience involving medical records preferred. Trauma registrar, trauma or ICU nurse and medical records technician experience preferred.
