Registered Nurse - Cardiology Testing

JOB SUMMARY: Under direction, provides professional nursing care for office patients following Iowa Heart Center’s (IHC) established standards and practices, consistent with the Iowa Heart Center Mission and Vision. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Ability to access and retrieve information from the computer. Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, dictating reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, coworkers, physicians and public. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing. Comprehends and follows medical records policy and procedures. Maintains patient information confidentiality. Understands and follows the corporate compliance plan and established position competencies. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES Essential Functions: (This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented when necessary) 1. Performs general and cardiac nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed procedures, medications, and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. 2. Conducts and assesses medical and interval history interviews with patients. 3. Provides patient and family education and documents in medical record. 4. Performs phone triage, assesses and communicates needs to physician as needed. 5. Acts as problem solver as it relates to patient, family, physician issues according to protocol. 6. Reads and researches patient records, charts and Practice Manager system for other pertinent information. May dictate history and physical, consults and other professional related letters. 7. Reviews and reports pertinent test(s) and outside examination results, scrutinizes for needed follow-up; communicates to Physician. 8. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional certifications. 9. Maintains practice standards in regard to Quality Improvement and OSHA 10. Performs various procedures and tests according to department guidelines. 11. Schedules admissions and outpatient procedures, and obtains consents. 12. Travels and performs RN duties with Outreach Clinics as requested. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Two years critical care experience. LICENSURE/REGISTRATION: Current valid Iowa nursing license without restriction. BCLS/ACLS certified.
