Registered Dental Assistant-Extended Function

Duties to be performed on the job:
Perform as RDA-EF chairside assistant in various areas of dentistry, including Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry and when necessary Orthodontics in the Faculty Group Dental Practice of the School of Dentistry. The FGDP is a dental practice with more than 25 general dentist and specialists. Responsibilities include assisting faculty and contract dentist in patient care chairside, carrying out extended duty functions. Extended Function duties include performing complex and technical procedures such as mount-mirror inspections of the oral cavity and charting obvious lesions, existing restorations and missing teeth. Perform other clinical support activities as requested by supervisor. In addition, the employee is expected to maintain and stock operatories, perform specific administrative functions; and perform other duties.
REQUIREMENTS
Working knowledge of current dental terminology, materials, equipment and procedures related to dentistry. Working knowledge of principles of 4-handed dentistry. Working knowledge and ability via valid certificate to perform extended functions as allowed by California State law for Registered Dental Assistants. Working knowledge of principles of infection control, sterilization procedures and infection control. Ability to organize work and set priorities to reflect relative importance of job responsibility. Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload. Demonstrated organizational skills to create and maintain an inventory of dental instruments, equipment and supplies in the working operatories. Computer skills to effectively utilize Dentrix computerized scheduling and billing system. Ability to recognize an emergency situation and respond appropriately. Possession of California Radiology Certificate and ability to take radiographs. Possession of coronal polishing certificate and current CPR certificate. Demonstrated knowledge of what constitutes confidential information and skill in maintaining confidentiality with regard to sensitive patient, faculty, resident and staff information.
