Regional Coder

* Interprets and applies AHA official coding guidelines to articulate and support principle and secondary diagnoses and selected procedures
* Ensures all factors necessary for assigning an accruate DRG* Compiles, updates and provides information from medical records for reporting
* Supports Corporate and Regional HIM Directors
* Supports Facility education
* Provide on site and remote facility coverage of all medial record coding functions as needed
* Travel required 75-100%
REQUIREMENTS
* Comprehensive knowledge of the AHA Official Coding Guidelines
* Knowledge of DRG and APC classification systems
* Thorough knowledge of medical terminology
* Thorough knowledge of the principles of the unit medical record system and its operation
* Ability to understand and code medical records
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
* Ability to effectively use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, email and data base software in performing work assignments
* Possesses assertiveness, thoroughness, sound judgement, tact, discretion, initiative, and accuracyMust either possess CCS or CPC, CPC-H and CCS-P certifications or certification as a RHIA (formerly RRA) or as a RHIT (formerly ART) by the American Health Information Management Association.High School or equivalency diploma and four years of experience where the primary function of the position must have been medical records coding.
