RN Quality Management Director

Applications are being accepted for a Quality Management Director. The RN will implement and maintain the Medical Center quality improvement (CI) program which will satisfy the requirements of JCAHO and other accreditation bodies as directed by the MVAMC leadership. In this capacity, the incumbent reports to the senior management of the MVAMC and the Medical Center Director, as the first line supervisor. The Quality Management Director is responsible for coordinating all aspects of performance improvement at the facility level. Key responsibilities include the coordination of the following facility-based functions: quality assessment, peer review, risk management, utilization management, investigation processes (reporting of quality and clinical concerns to outside organizations), review of the clinical documentation elements of the Compliance Program, clinical patient safety initiatives, integration of customer service/satisfaction into performance improvement activities, participation of the competency and certification processes as appropriate, and membership on MVAMC committees such as the Coordinating Council, the Compliance Committee, the Consumer Advisory Board (Quality Council).
REQUIREMENTS
The applicant must have a MSN. Those applicants with a PhD will also be considered. Specialized experience should include a minimum of five years of increasingly complex nursing practice with two years in a leadership and/or supervisory assignment. A high degree of leadership, self-direction and initiative in quality, patient safety, and performance management/project management activities is desired. Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of management and organization in the health care field with emphasis on quality and performance management, continuous quality improvement, lean management principles, performance consulting, education/teaching, database and information management, statistical analysis and evaluation techniques (epidemiology background is ideal), group process, team and organizational development, organizational change, and customer service satisfaction. Knowledge and leadership ability in applying improvement processes, tools and techniques (flow charts, root cause analysis, proactive risk assessment, cause and effect analysis, project management), human factor engineering principles and conducting analytical studies. Expertise in accreditation standards, patient safety improvement concepts and VHA national requirements is expected. There must be an interest in and ability to teach quality improvement and its techniques to clinical trainees.
