Shft: DaysJob Description:In collaboration with the Performance Improvement Team, fosters an organizational culture and infrastructure in which medical/ healthcare errors and other factors which contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes can be effectively and efficiently identified; immediate appropriate remedial actions can be taken; and root cause analysis-based long-term solutions are planned and implemented in an environment that is void of individual blame or retribution for involvement in the errors. Assures site compliance with the letter, spirit and intent of the JCAHO patient safety standards, as well as other applicable standards and regulations by federal and state agencies and voluntary accrediting organizations (e.g., HCFA, CARF, etc.) In collaboration with the various campus¿s Med Execs, system-wide Quality Council, Executive Leadership Team, Professional Affairs Committee of the Board, and the complementary campus committees, prioritizes processes that are identified as high-risk and problem prone with respect to patient clinical safety, and at least annually, selects at least one major clinical operational process for site assessment and improvement. Leads these efforts as appropriate through the hospital process of Failure Modes Effects Analysis. Assures that hospital leadership is aware of, is educated about, and participates in sentinel event and other patient safety processes. Measures and assesses the effectiveness of the hospital efforts to improve patient clinical safety. Leads the hospital in the selection of appropriate benchmarks and in organizational goal-setting in this arena.Experience: 5 years in a healthcare environment, preferably in a hospital setting
2 years leading and/or significantly participating in performance improvement and project management, JCAHO or patient safety initiatives.Education/Licensure Required: Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing is required.
Registered Nurse License is required, must have unrestricted license in Iowa or Nebraska, Iowa and Nebraska are compact states so must be licensed in the state in which you reside.
Preferred: BSN or MSN Extensive clinical operations experience and credits toward an advanced degree may be considered. Quality improvement certification from a nationally peer-recognized association.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must be knowledgeable about hospital operations and understand the political and cultural attributes historically embedded in these operations. Must have operational fluency with databases, spreadsheets, project management and other data manipulation tools. Must possess strong knowledge of risk management, safety, and quality improvement principles and strategies, and be well-versed on the ethical implications, clinical ramifications in adverse Healthcare situations; excellent management skills; computer literacy; excellent communication skills; an ability to present complex issues in an understandable fashion; strong change management skills; must demonstrate personal traits of a high level of motivation; team orientation; professionalism; trust; and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect.
