Shft: DaysJob Description:Coordinates a designated nursing area (part of a unit, entire unit, or entire facility). Oversees quality of patient care to assure delivery of individualized nursing care. Makes timely recommendations for improvement/revisions. Oversees appropriateness of staff mix and makes timely adjustments and recommendations. Provides input for budget planning. Orients, counsels, teaches, coaches, and develops staff so as to effect performance improvements and create good employee morale. Provides positive leadership in resolving nursing area problems. Oversees patient care delivery to maximize patient/family satisfaction and minimize risk of injury or negative outcomes to patients or employees. Directs staff during emergency situations. Acts as an advocate for patients and family members. Projects MAC department as an integral entity in patient outcomes. Assures that assessment findings and physician plans are incorporated in the interdisciplinary care planning process. Actively participates in patient/family education.EDUCATION AND/OR LICENSURE Required: Licensed in Nebraska or Iowa as a Registered Nurse, Nebraska and Iowa are compact states, so license must be held in state of residence.
Basic life support certification. Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or other related field.EXPERIENCE Required: Three years nursing experience in a nursing facility and/or medical/surgical hospital unit. Preferred: Previous nursing service management experience.KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Job requires frequent reading skills, verbal communication skills and written communication skills. Strong leadership skills and nursing judgment skills. Ability to plan and organize work, keep abreast of changes in the industry, make independent decisions, promote good public relations, interpret data and promote positive employee morale. Ability to be creative, innovative, solve problems and to communicate effectively in writing, orally and by using computer terminal. Must possess knowledge of physical and mental capabilities of the adult and geriatric population (e.g. declining ability for self care, psychological changes associated with advanced age, physical disabilities, vision and hearing limitations, and memory/behavioral impairments etc) and possess skills to interact effectively with adults, including persons of advanced age.
