RN Cardiology Testing

JOB SUMMARY: Under supervision, performs cardiopulmonary stress testing as well as providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following Iowa Heart Center’s established standards and practices. Provides education and evaluation to patients under special procedure at Iowa Heart Center. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of ECG interpretation and stress testing procedures. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Skill in maintaining records, forms and statistics. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and public. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Comprehends and follows medical records policies and procedures regarding release of information. Maintains patient information confidentiality. Understands and follows corporate compliance plan. 1. Greets, educates and prepares patients for procedure (testing) according to protocol. Reports and documents appropriate information. 2. Establishes IV sites and administers intravenous medications as a part of various diagnostic tests. 3. Performs stress testing according to protocol. 4. Maintains procedure rooms with necessary supplies and materials. Maintains procedure manual. 5. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations. 6. Ensures proper functioning of equipment and reports malfunctions to department manager. 7. Participates in ALARA program. 8. Performs essential functions for office nurse. 9. Maintain a safe and clean work environment. 10. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested. 11. Orders supplies for the nuclear medicine department. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Two years experience in cardiovascular or critical care nursing. BCLS and ACLS certified. LICENSE/REGISTRATION: Current Iowa Registered Nurse license without restriction. BCLS and ACLS certified.
