REGISTERED NURSE (ICU)

The Surgical Intensive Care Unit Clinical Nurse II must be able to independently provide and coordinate care of the Orthopaedic Surgery patients who are an elevated risk for post-operative complications requiring medical intervention. Patient population group to include ASA III status on pre-operative screening or those who require additional hemodynamic or ventilatory support during the acute post operative phase. Group also includes rehabilitation patients requiring critical care services and/or post trauma critical care patients who will require placement to rehabilitation medicine services. Special services to include, but are not limited to:

Neurological monitoring:Frequent neurological assessment
Neurovascular assessment
Respiratory monitoring:Ventilator support: Weaning and extubation
Continuous SpO2 monitoring
Chest tubes/pleural drains
Surgical airway management
ETCO2 monitoring/SVO2
Cardiovascular care:Continuous EKG monitoring/intervention
Invasive monitoring: arterial/pulmonary artery
Vasoactive drug support
Volume expanders: plasma, blood products
Frequent assessment/vital signs
Frequent blood value assessments: sampling with appropriate interventions
Deltex cardiography monitoring

The Clinical Nurse II – Surgical Intensive Care Unit must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He/she must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group (pediatric, adolescents and/or geriatric patient group).
REQUIREMENTS
1.Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.

2.Minimum of three years critical care experience.

3.Orthopaedic experience preferred.

4.ACLS certification.
