{1}Performs duties which require attention to the physical well being of patients such as:[a]Before entering magnetic resonance imaging procedure room each gowned patient must be free of all ferrous objects that may interfere with the procedure.[b]Before entering the magnetic resonance imaging procedure room screen all patients for pacemakers, prosthetics, surgical clips and inquire of any other possible element.[c]Transfers, positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure in order to obtain and effect the desired radiographic diagnostic results as specified by the physician; utilizes immobilization devices as required.{2}Performs daily quality assurance on magnetic resonance equipment and matrix camera.{3}Operates control console for each patient's scan including selection of proper imaging techniques. Operates various peripheral hardware such as disk drives, magnetic tape unit and oscilloscope.{4}Using control console enters patient data at start of examination and monitors data acquisition during procedure.{5}Archives raw data or image data from disk to magnetic tape or floppy as required.{6}Manipulate data to obtain the best possible image. Transfers images from disk or magnetic media to produce transparency.{7}Develops films in automatic processor and ensures films are of acceptable diagnostic quality and completeness.{8}Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed.{9}Schedules MRI examinations when needed to ensure smooth flow and optimal utilization of equipment.{10}Instructs and demonstrates MRI equipment operation, filming and other technical aspects for professional staff and students.{11}Handles and transfers cryogen.{12}Controls access to magnetic field.{13}Performs other duties as required or assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic technology; possess a current Massachusetts State license and current certification by the A.R.R.T. or equivalentBe Registered or registry eligible in MRI by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent is preferred.2-3 years experience as a Radiologic technologist preferred with at least one year in a specialty such as CT scan, or angiography.Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.Must have analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of magnetic resonance imaging techniques and methods and knowledge of cross sectional anatomy.Work requires on-the-job training to acquire necessary familiarity with tomographic procedures, techniques and methods.Understanding of computer operations relating to Digital Imaging, the Radiology Information System (IDXRad) and all Hospital Information Systems that integrate with the Department of Radiology relating to patient information and management (BICS, Order entry systems, PACS ect.).Must be aware of hazards within the department, (Magnetic Fields, standard precautions, etc.), and adhere to safety standards established by BWH and regulatory agencies.
