The Nurse Practitioner provides diagnostic, preventative and therapeutic mental health services to patients in a correctional setting, under the guidance of a psychiatrist. In addition, they will provide supervisory support to the nursing and allied support health staff. In this role the selected candidate will: • Be responsible for the assessment and management of people with mental health, substance abuse and co-occurring conditions; assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for those receiving mental health services; and function as a senior member of the multidisciplinary team. • Notify psychiatrist regarding unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct consultation. • Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care • Collaborate and conduct case conferences with other mental health professionals to identify patient care needs, implement approaches, evaluate the effectiveness of approaches. • Prescribe, direct and administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications in treating mental, emotional or behavioral disorders. • Provide crisis intervention and management related to supportive care services • Ensure compliance with all Federal and State laws, regulations and guidelines. • Coordinate and advise all applicable parties regarding patient discharge or transfer. • Monitor, assess and coach staff on clinical related procedures, recommending training or education as needed. • Promote preventative and health maintenance care, including positive health behaviors and self-care skills through education and counseling. • Ensure compliance with all facility and MHM protocol, procedures and guidelines. • Employee may be required to perform other related duties to meet needs of the patient, program, MHM or client. REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for employment candidate must have an active Pennsylvania license, master’s degree from an accredited college or university, specialized certification preferred, 2 years experience in providing psychiatric / mental health care to mentally ill individuals and prescriptive authority.
