Function of the Physical Therapy Assistant: To provide medically prescribed evaluation and treatment of individuals following accepted practice guidelines, in a home health care setting.
General Statement of Responsibility: The registered (licensed) Physical Therapy assistant is responsible for directly following the established plan of treatment developed by the supervising Physical Therapist in accordance with physicians orders, with federal, state, and local standards, and with the established agency policies and procedures to maximize fulfilling the therapy needs of patients. Obligations include:
Implementing ongoing patient treatment programscompetence in administration of prescribed therapyinstructing the patient, caregiver, home health aide, or nurse in techniques not specifically required to be conducted by the therapistmaintaining liaison with all members of health care teamevaluating the effectiveness of the exercises rendered the patientdocumenting patient care accurately and in a timely mannercompleting continuing education and licensure requirements.
