Functioning under the direction of the Registered Nurse and as a member of the Electrophysiology(EP) interdisciplinary service, the Patient Care Technician(PCAII) performs duties of direct and indirect patient care. The PCT is responsible for supporting the RN and the interdisciplinary team with clinical tasks, including but not limited to patient and specimen transport, stocking of the procedure area and control hallway, maintenance of non-imaging equipment, cleaning and reprocessing of surgical trays, removal of IJ and femoral sheaths with preservation of hemostasis of the same.Non-Clinical Duties1. Promotes the philosophy of patient/family focused care through the cordial greeting and interactions with patient, families, and hospital personnel.
2. Demonstrates an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, treatment areas and other patient services. Refers patients, families and others to appropriate resources.
3. Responsible for facilitating transport of patients to and from procedure rooms. When doing so:
' Properly identifies patients by ID band
' Is aware of flown in and out of procedure rooms
' Utilizes and follows standard precautions
' Assists in moving patient from stretcher or bed to procedure table and vice versa using patient transfer equipment and proper body mechanics.
' Ensures patient safety i.e., bed rails up; patient is covered; cleans stretcher between patient transport
' Performs messenger/escort activities for the area, i.e., blood pick-ups, lab deliveries
4. Stocking the procedure rooms and keeping they and the control hallways free of debris
5. Maintenance of non-imaging equipment
' Performs and documents q.c. of A.C.T. machines daily per JCAHO standards
' Cleaning/wrapping/packaging surgical instruments for Central Service
' Delivers packaged instrument to CPD for sterilization
' Picks up sterilized trays every morning from CPD
6. Attends and participates in educational and staff meetings.
7. Demonstrates appropriate use of supplies, equipment, time and other resources, helping to maintain a cost-effective unit.
8. Transports patients and equipment between clinical and test areas to support the provision of care.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.Clinical Duties:
' Maintains familiarity with expected outcomes of all tasks performed, recognizes situations requiring RN notification
' Removal of sheaths with concurrent observation of sites to safely resume hemostasis
' Assist in transporting patient to cvrr post procedure, attaching them to monitors and assisting in their careAdditional Duties:
' Is responsible to update OSHA competencies annually
' Works cohesively as a member of the patient care team, anticipating the needs of the team members, as well as the patient
' Consistently maintains the confidentiality/privacy of all patients
' Maintains hospital service standards, with particular attention to personal/behavioral, staff teamwork, and patient-staff interaction guidelines.
REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School graduate or equivalent.
2. Completion of Nursing Assistant training program required.
3. Experience in working in ambulatory setting preferred.SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
1. Able to communicate orally and in writing in English.
2. Organizational skills.
3. Customer service skills requiredWORKING CONDITIONS:
Possible biological hazards while working around procedure rooms.
Possible physical hazards related to pushing, transporting, and lifting patients.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
