The patient care technician (PCAII) is a trained ancillary worker who is responsible and accountable for the quality of care s/he provides to the patients in the radiology area. Major functions include, but are not limited to POC equipment quality controls. Also performs duties and routine technical tasks such as monitoring/documenting vital signs, assisting with patient care and transport, setting up procedure tables, utilizing aseptic technique and communicating patients necessary routines and instructions in accordance with established policies and procedures. The PCAII works directly under the supervision of the Registered Nurse in the assigned area and is ultimately responsible to the nurse manager and attending M.D..Performs and records various technical tasks and quality control procedures in accordance with established departmental guidelines.Blood glucose machine: Perform quality control procedure following Point of Care Testing SOP, uploads data weekly to Lab Control.Perform weekly ACT maintenance procedure following ACT point of care Testing SOP.Participates in yearly competency evaluation regarding all point of care testing activities.Takes and records vital signs on patient's pre and post procedure. Sets up and applies NIBP, pulse Oximeter and cardiac monitor; recognizes problems and reports to RN/MD ' assists with troubleshooting.Prepares patients for procedure and records on flow sheet: strength/absences of appropriate pulses, weight, height, intravenous fluids - records intake & output, identification band on, collects and labels specimens, clip bilateral groin areas.Performs EKG's, for review by RN/MD also maintains/cleans EKG machines.Performs various duties necessary to provide care, comfort and safety for assigned patients, such as: changing linens, moving and positioning patients, reinforcing of routines and procedures related instructions.Checks oxygen tank supply and maintains supply with gauge ready to go.Checks and maintains suction and suction supplies ready for use.Assists with maintaining room stock, including clinic. Check expiration dates on sterile products ' resolves any inventory deficiencies with inventory manager or lead tech.Maintains linen stock in procedure rooms, including clinic.Maintains IV pumps par levels for each room.Restocks EKG/Defibrillator charts daily.Checks transport monitor batteries daily.Cleans surgical instruments, delivers instruments to CPD for decontamination, wraps and packages decontaminated instruments in CPD for sterilization process, returns instruments for use to procedure area.Assists RN with overall flow through Pre/Post procedural process maintaining patient flow.Stamps paperwork with patient addressograph.Brings Same Day Admissions through from waiting room ' assists with changing ' manages belongings per policy-with labeling and bagging, lockers if available, positions patient on stretcherSets up multiple and varied procedure tables using sterile surgical technique; Preps and Drapes.Performs surgical scrub, gowning, gloving, surgical prep, drape and procedure table set up for tunneled catheter cases.Assisting with room turnover cleaning/setting up new equipment.Performs associated clerical duties ' and transport appropriate patients to recovery room and inpatient units.Participates in staff meetings, unit-based quality assurance activities and continuing education programs. Keeps informed of personnel policies and incorporates them in behavior as indicated.Provides written report of care provided, according to established standards of clinical services, co-signed by RN or MD.Makes appropriate use of supplies, equipment, time and other resources, helping to maintain a cost effective program for patients, unit and institution. Assists in evaluating new products, equipment and systems as required.Maintains unit in clean and orderly condition. Ensures compliance with all fire and safety codes; i.e. neat and passable corridors, exits unobstructed.Delivers par level pharmacy drug kits and returns used kits to pharmacist on L2.Maintains sterile Towel stock.Checks and restocks supplies at scrub sink as needed.Checks and maintains laser stock in L2 clinic.Performs all other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
High School GraduateMust be able to read, write and understand English.Must be able to perform according to the job description: These talents generally acquired through the completion of a training program lasting a minimum of three months andTalent acquired through successful completion of three months orientation with on-the-job training of specialized technical skills.Must have some knowledge and understanding of budget - i.e.; cost, materials, utilization of time-waste-expense.Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with all contacts.Must have the ability to adapt to changing pace on the unit with frequent interruptions.Presents a positive attitude and a professional appearance.Must have the ability to independently set priorities and organize work.Must have developed observational skills to determine needs of the patient and unit.Must be able to work in a stressful environment with critically ill patients and frequent emergencies.Must be physically capable of lifting (linen, supplies, patients, etc.) and applying sufficient manual compression of femoral artery puncture site to effectively achieve hemostasis in approximately six patients per day.The PCT works in a well lighted, clean ventilated temperature controlled clinical area. Possible job hazards are radiation exposure, electrical hazards, and exposure to communicable diseases and personal injury.
