Applies external device on the body to restrict or enhance motion or support a body segment by accessing, measuring, and application.


ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS:

1. DETERMINES THE ORTHOTIC NEEDS OF THE PATIENT
by
integrating the information obtained from history, examination, measurement and observation.


2. EDUCATES PATIENT
by
informing the patient of the various procedures being performed; using appropriate communication skills.


3. DEVELOPS A TREATMENT PROTOCOL FOR THE PATIENT
by
reviewing patient data in order to determine an orthotic device recommendation and plan; applying a properly fitting orthotic device by utilizing accepted orthotic techniques to achieve optimum outcomes.


4. DEMONSTRATES PROPER DOCUMENTATION OF A PATIENT’S HISTORY AND FINANCIAL RECORDS
by
using established record-keeping techniques.


5. INTERPRETS PATIENT DATA AN MODIFIES A PATIENT MODEL TO ENSURE OPTIMAL FIT AND FUNCTION OF THE ORTHOTIC DEVICE
by
providing continuing patient care and periodic evaluation.


6. MAINTAINS PATIENT CONFIDENCE AND BUSINESS OPERATIONS
by
keeping information confidential.


7. MAINTAINS SAFE AND CLEAN WORKING ENVIRONMENT
by
complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

8. PROTECTS PATIENTS AND EMPLOYEES
by
adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.


9. ENSURES OPERATION OF EQUIPMENT
by
completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; notifying supervisor and discontinuing use if equipment is not operating properly


10. MAINTAINS PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
by
attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.


11. ASSISTS IN DEVELOPING ORTHOTIC ASSISTANTS AND TECHNICIANS
by
providing information; educating on state-of-the-art practices.


12. COMPLIES WITH FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL LEGAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
by
studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.


13. MAINTAINS ALL PROTECTED HEALTHCARE INFORMATION (PHI) FOLLOWING HIPAA PATIENT PRIVACY RULES APPROPRIATE TO POSITION
by
following internal controls.


14. CONTRIBUTES TO TEAM EFFORT
by
complying with applicable policies and procedures; accomplishing related results as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE
Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); completion of residency program; or an
equivalent combination of education and experience with certification (ABC or BOC); or equivalent
combination of education and experience.


Experience: Three years of experience.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong interpersonal skills to successfully educate patients; a desire and compassion to help patients and their family. Adheres to ABC, BOC and JCAHO standards.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
