Located 2 hours north of Seattle in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, Vancouver Coastal Health is responsible for the delivery of about $2 billion in community, acute, and residential health care services to more than one million people in communities from Richmond through Vancouver, the North Shore, the Sunshine Coast, the Sea-to-Sky Corridor, Powell River, Bella Bella and Bella Coola.

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Regional Manager, Occupational Health Nursing, the Occupational Health Nurse provides a confidential health service that includes strategic and operational support and advice to Vancouver Coastal Health Managers, Directors, Employee Relations Advisors and staff in relation to medical case management of staff who have complex occupational or non-occupational health or injury claims. Coordinates the collection of all medical histories, advises on fitness to work issues and matches job requirements to individual abilities. Counsels and educates staff and management on health and wellness issues and coordinates access to related internal and external resources for staff. Provides work direction to Employee Health Unit Registered Nurses.
REQUIREMENTS
Baccalaureate in nursing required, Masters preferred. Certificate/Diploma of Occupational Health Nursing plus three years recent related experience in Occupational Health in a healthcare setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Current CPR. Current registration with the Registered Nurses Association of British Columbia.



Provides expert opinion to facilitate decision-making in the biopsychosocial and spiritual dimensions of an employee’s health and wellness regarding fitness to work.

Utilizes clinical knowledge and expertise in occupational health to deem an employee unfit to work.

Accurately maintains documentation of employee health files to ensure currency and validity of information.

Consistently maintains and employs professional standards of practice, standards of ethics, legislation (e.g. FOIPPA, WCB), collective agreements, provincial and federal guidelines and clinical practice guidelines.
