Shft: DaysJob Description:Functions within the scope of practice as defined within state regulations. The nurse practitioner scope of practice shall be defined by the Integrated Practice Agreement as completed by the collaborating physician. The Integrated Practice Agreement shall be filed with the appropriate state licensing authority.Assesses the medical, physical and psychological status of patients by obtaining a comprehensive problem-oriented health history, performing a physical examination of appropriate complexity, and ordering and evaluating laboratory, and other diagnostic studies as medically indicated.Performs tests (e.g. throat cultures), as deemed appropriate by the collaborating physician and outlined in the protocols. Interprets available data in order to establish a preliminary diagnosis and develop a treatment plan. Consults as needed with collaborating physician regarding abnormal results, or when medical problem is beyond the scope of his/her training. Provides appropriate referrals to clinic physicians and consulting physicians.Orders and/or administers injections and immunizations. Writes prescriptions for controlled and non-controlled medications based on treatment protocols. Maintains comprehensive and complete medical records, assuring that records are accurate and current. Clearly documents all orders, and signs all entries. Have adequate computer skills to be able to document on an electronic medical record.Experience
One year of experience preferred in a family practice or internal medicine setting.
Education/LicensureA minimum of a Masters Degree in nursing with completion of a Family Nurse Practitioner program. Must have a current license, as an RN in Nebraska or Iowa. Nebraska and Iowa are compact states so license must be held in the state of your residence. Must also be licensed in Nebraska or Iowa as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse APRN-NE or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner ARNP-IA, license must be held in the state you practice.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of:Professional medical practice and standards of care to give and evaluate patient care.Medical equipment and instruments.Common safety hazards and precautions to establish safe work environment.Medications and their effects on patients.Patient education principles.Organizational policies, regulations and procedures.Principles of risk management, quality improvement, infection control and universal precautions.CPT and ICD-9 coding necessary to complete charge sheets.Skills as demonstrated through:Applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing care.Taking medical histories, assessing medical conditions, and interpreting findings.Preparing and maintaining records.Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients and their families, physicians, staff, and the public. Ability to:
Perform a complete, appropriate and thorough physical examination.Provide compassionate, empathetic patient care.Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, with physicians, patients and staff.React calmly, effectively, and professionally in emergency situations.Interpret and utilize lab data and other information to develop a plan of care.Function at an appropriate level of independence, at all times working in collaboration with the collaborating physician.Project a friendly, courteous, and service-oriented image.
