Nurse In Charge
The NIC is the designated clinical leader for a given patient care area who works collaboratively with the Nurse Manager in planning and implementing patient care at the service/department level. The NIC is accountable for cost-effective decision making regarding daily assignment of staff, use of supplies, and the day to day operational decision making. The NIC participates in the clinical patient care standard development, evaluation of outcomes and development of improvement initiatives. The NIC participates in the assessment of staff performance through contribution to individual staff performance reviews. The NIC is accountable for identifying competency issues and participating in the development and implementation of the plan for performance improvement. The NIC reports to the Nurse Manager.Skills:
Demonstrates clinical expertise; utilizes current concepts of nursing practice in the management of patient care; demonstrates the skills necessary to assist with development and administration of policies, procedures, and budgets; must be able to organize, supervise and evaluate the work of others; interpersonal skills; stress management skills.
