Manager, Cancer Registry
New York Oncology Hematology has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Cancer Registry in Amsterdam, NY.
REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in the Life Sciences preferred.Minimum three to five years of experience as a cancer/tumor registrar; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum two years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.Prior experience in developing and monitoring a quality control program.Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) required.
SCOPE:
Under limited supervision, develops & monitors quality control plan for cancer registry services to ensure complete and accurate data collection. Provides feedback to registry personnel as appropriate. Develops individual and group training based on findings. Ensures patient follow-up and subsequent treatment information is captured and recorded as appropriate. Plans, assigns, and/or manages the work of others. Establishes priorities and monitors progress in meeting departmental goals and objectives. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Develops and monitors quality control plan for cancer registry. Audits patient records in accordance with plan; documents and reports discrepancies. Develops action plans to correct deficiencies. Provides timely feedback to staff. Develops individual and group training based on findings of review. Plans, organizes and conducts training sessions.
Performs annual follow-up (electronically or manually) and updates existing patient records with appropriate follow-up information. Contacts physicians, hospitals and/or patient and family to obtain information. Ensures follow up rates meet guidelines for survival analysis.
Updates patient subsequent treatment information as appropriate to allow for meaningful outcome analysis. Involved in hiring process, conducts interviews, makes recommendations in regards to new hires and terminations, conducts exit interviews for Supervisor and Cancer Registrars positions in accordance with qualifications and staffing requirements.Completes performance evaluations for staff. Adjusts staffing needs and delegates assignments to meet caseload/volume. Responsible for coaching and counseling of Cancer Registrars. Identifies staff developmental and training needs.
As necessary, provides assistance with data abstraction and pertinent information including patient demographic, cancer information, stage and treatment. Completes and submits abstracts in appropriate time frame in adherence to all quality control guidelines and policies and procedures.
Develops new employee training programs, assists with employee continuing education. Provides technical assistance and support for all aspects of registry operations, including database, quality, abstracting, administrative, etc. Acts as liaison for clinical and management staff at practice sites. Responds to requests for cancer registry data as appropriate. Maintains data request log and copies of reports as appropriate. Provides assistance in the creation of data files and reports.Directly supervises the activities of cancer registry staff in the clinical resource management group. May have indirect responsibility for cancer registry staff in network locations.
