Lactation Specialist-Grant*

Job Summary: The Lactation Specialist-Grant, utilizes discretion and independent judgement in applying the nursing process to the provision of age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient care to lactating mothers and their children; serves as a role model in patient care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates advanced level of clinical practice; follows medical center policies, protocols, techniques, and guidelines; meets qualifications, licensure/certifications, and competencies as defined in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing Care; applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area of specialty; utilizes knowledge in the delivery of quality whole person care; contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce; performs other duties as assigned. Job Specifications: Associate Degree in nursing required; Baccalaureate degree preferred. Speciality education in lactation required. Current and unrestricted Ca. RN license, BLS, Neonatal Resuscitation, and Lactation Educator certification required. International Board Certified Lactation Consultant preferred. Other licensure/certification as specified in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing care. 2 years nursing experience in perinatal care with 1 year of experience in breastfeeding support and promotion in the perinatal setting required. Able to trouble shoot and calibrate patient care euqipment; perform technical patient care activities. Able to communicate effectively in English with professional quality; lift at least 25 pounds repetitively to move/transport patients, equipment, and supplies.
