Lab Technician-Senior

POSITION SUMMARY



This is an exciting career opportunity for candidates looking for an opportunity to jump start their careers in a Turbo Charger Research and Development facility. This position is responsible for performing the testing of turbochargers and components to generate requested data to meet required deadlines.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Operates gas stands and engine dynamometers, observes and immediately interprets data and reacts accordingly. Performs setup of gas stands and engine dynamometers and changeover of hardware for the next test sequence. Individual will measure and assemble hardware prior to testing. Measures and assembles hardware to provide to the customer. Reads and interprets Engineering Work Orders to determine necessary hardware, assembly requirements, and test requirements for all areas of the Lab. Assures correct, timely set up, and accurate operation of gas stands and engine dynamometers. Makes recommendations to improve the same. Performs calibration and maintenance of gas stands and engine cells. Maintains safe and professional appearance, habits, and work area. Performs gas stand performance, burst and containment, durability, and mechanical qualification testing. Also performs engine performance, durability, and mechanical testing. Gathers, processes, and prepares data for Supervisor to distribute to Engineering. Completes log books and update notes and other records on a continual basis. Balances compressor wheels and shaft and wheel assemblies. Builds special test hardware and makes recommendations to improve the same. Assists in training and development of Technicians. Continues training to upgrade capabilities. Maintains good interpersonal, communications, and decision-making skills. Maintains awareness of the engineering requirements of turbochargers and their component parts. Possesses proficiency or has the ability to be trained to design tools and techniques indicated on "Design Tools and Skills Matrix." Understands and adheres to current quality and control policies. Understands and adheres to current health, safety, and environmental policies. Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Associates Degree in an engineering-related filed, automotive technical field or certification from an Airframe and Powerplant technical school. Equivalent mechanical powertrain experience in the automotive industry will be considered in place of a degree. This is defined as: experience obtained in a position that requires in-depth engine work including tear down, reassembly, measurement, and dynamometer testing for a minimum of three years. This position also requires 3 - 7 years experience as a test technician such as that gained in a profession testing automotive components, preferably powertrain systems, in a lab or R&D environment. Must have a demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to learn required. Strong blue print reading experience and ability to utilize dynamometers, indicators, micrometers and dial calipers required. Ability to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision. Candidate must provide personal set of basic hand tools. Computer literacy including the ability to use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel etc.). Willingness and ability to continue training to upgrade capabilities in technical and interpersonal areas by independent study and formal training.
