DEPARTMENT: Health Information Management

Completion of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding courses with demonstrated coding proficiency. Knowledge of and proficiency in medical record coding and classification systems, medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. Ability to abstract and analyze information from the medical record considerable knowledge of ancillary service procedures. Codes diagnoses and procedures from medical records of all patients treated in the hospital, ambulatory care services and emergency services according to the International Classification of Diseases and Operations-ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS. Utilizes encoder to interpret diagnoses and procedural terms into proper code.
REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or GED, Credentialed in one of the following required:

(RHIA, RHIT, or CCS REQUIRED)
Registered Health Information Administrator
Registered health Information Technician
Certified Coding Specialist

3 years coding experience in an tertiary care hospital setting which includes competence in using computerized encoding systems and proficiency in coding both complex inpatient and outpatient records required.
