Borgess Health includes more than 120 sites of care in 15 southern Michigan cities, as well as eight owned or affiliated hospitals, a nursing home, ambulatory care facilities, home health care, physician practices, managed care services, a cancer center and an air ambulance service. This position reports to the Chief Medical Officer and operates as a senior staff position within Borgess Health. This Director level position’s primary objective will be to formulate plans to ensure the organization meets the commitment of providing safe healthcare. This role will also be responsible for working with leadership to provide direction and overall accountability for the risk management program for Borgess Health and its affiliated sites, departments and practices.

Other priorities will include: oversight of the Event Reporting System (ERS) and professional and general claims management in accordance with the Ascension Health Guidelines, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations for healthcare and relevant accreditation standards, promoting exchange of information relating to clinical safety and risk among the Board, administration, quality management/performance improvement and other professional personnel, medical staff and risk management.
REQUIREMENTS
License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan or eligible to receive.Master’s degree in nursing, health care, business or related field required. ASHRM certification preferred.5 to 7 years of risk management experience and extensive knowledge of claims management and risk management techniques, including claims litigation strategy and management, Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses.Risk and claims management program development and ability to work with both the quality improvement and legal counsel vital.Analytical skills necessary to obtain and evaluate complex information, analyze problems, consider alternative solutions, project long-term effects of decisions and make appropriate recommendations.Expertise in the use of multiple IS systemsFacilitate multiple levels of personnel in identifying and acting on risk reduction throughout BH.
