General Summary:
Responsible and accountable for screening, enrolling and following study patients for a multicenter clinical trial involving genetic testing and warfarin dosing. Will participate in additional clinical research studies for the Venous Thromboembolism Research Group. Will recruit and implement research study protocol as well as provide outstanding, compassionate nursing care. Will evaluate cardiovascular outpatients with Dr. Goldhaber in Brigham Medical Specialties.Responsibilities:
WARFARIN GENETICS TRIAL:1. Dose warfarin according to a new and evolving nomogram that combines rapid turnaround genetic and clinical information.
2. Assist Investigators in identifying and recruiting warfarin naïve patients for this trial.
3. Once consent is obtained from patients, facilitating the rapid turnaround genetic testing.
4. Monitor and manage twice weekly INRs for patients involved in study.
5. Telephone patients with their twice-weekly INR results and instruct patients twice weekly regarding their warfarin dose.
6. Monitor bleeding and thrombotic events.
7. Act as the Clinical Coordinating Center liaison between BWH, MGH, FH, NSMC, and NWH. Will travel to these facilities as needed.
8. Provide assistance to the Data Coordinating Center.
9. Perform other duties as required.GENERAL RESEARCH:1. Assist with meeting all deadlines and reporting requirements.
2. Enter data and double-checking data.
3. Participates in meetings and teleconferences with Co-Investigators, as needed.
4. Identify, organize, and ensure accurate completion of required regulatory documents from clinical centers.
5. Perform other duties as required.CLINICAL NURSING:1. Evaluate cardiovascular outpatients and obtain histories, perform physical examinations, order appropriate lab and imaging tests, and formulate differential diagnoses and evaluations under the supervision of Samuel Z. Goldhaber, MD.
REQUIREMENTS
Requirements:
RN degree and 2 years of experience as a nurse, preferably with a focus in cardiovascular disease and with prior clinical research experience.Massachusetts Board of Registration Nursing License.Excellent writing skills.Meticulous and detail-oriented concerning the collection and documentation of research data.Flexible to meet the needs of the Venous Thromboembolism Research Group and possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills.Excellent clinical skills necessary to evaluate cardiovascular patient problems.Outstanding ability to work collaboratively and function as an effective member of our team.Working Conditions:
Work will be done in the inpatient and outpatient areas for the purpose of recruiting, consenting, and examining patients for protocols, obtaining blood specimens, reviewing charts for data relevant to protocols, and presenting relevant results to patients and hospital personnel. In addition, workspace will be provided in the Venous Thromboembolism Research Group office at the Ledge building.
