Charge Nurse Exemption: Non-ExemptWork schedule is M-F/Rotating WeekendsSummary: The Registered Nurse in Charge is responsible for overall patient care and clinical activities in the absence of the Facility Administrator.
Qualifications:
1) Current RN license in the state of practice.
2) CNN preferred.
3) One year of patient care experience. Minimum six months of dialysis experience in outpatient unit.
4) Current CPR certification.
5) Supervisory experience desirable, willingness and desire to supervise required.
Essential Job Functions:
Employee Management:
1) Participate in staff and patient scheduling. Reports on staff performance.
2) Supervision, evaluation and counseling of facility staff in the absence of the Facility Administrator.
Patient Care:
1) Supervise direct patient care, vital signs, initiation and termination of dialysis, documentation, physical assessment of all patient treatments, transcription of all physician’s orders, drawing and documentation of all ordered laboratory work.
2) Perform patient assessment: vital signs, noting presence of signs of trauma, patients’ general physical & mental condition, review dialysis orders, documents observations in a legible manner.
3) Communicate all emergencies, patient life-threatening complications and related incidents to supervisor, Medical Director, and Regional Director/Area Administrator.
4) Assess patient and family learning readiness; and provides appropriate information on renal disease, prescribed dialysis treatment and medical regiment and their impact on the patient’s state of health and well-being.
5) Provide hemodialysis therapy: formulate dialysis plan per physician orders and weight and rate to be ultrafiltrated, ensure safety measures, monitor patient vital signs, administer medications or other appropriate treatments, discontinue dialysis according to established procedure, and document all activity appropriately.
6) Perform analysis of patient assessments, laboratory data and when concerns are noted brings the issues to the attention of the physician.
7) Instruct patient of pre and post dialysis care.
8) Administer patient quality care in a considerate, respectful manner.
Facility/Equipment Management:
1) Inform administrator of all incidents, conditions, problems, counseling and the necessity for further counseling as it relates to staff, patient care and facility management.
2) Prepare and maintain dialysis machines and systems per DaVita policy: rinse & reuse procedure, maintain dialyzer records, prepare dialysis water treatment system for use according to established procedure and understand the technical operations to resolve minor problems independently.
Financial Management / Quality Assurance:
1) Ensure charges for dialysis are recorded according to company procedures.
2) Complete flow sheets and charge vouchers, order inventory and supplies.
3) Participate in quality assurance cost containment program.
4) Compliance with DaVita policy and procedures in accordance with state and federal regulations for patient care and services. (Medicare, OSHA, or other governing agencies.)
5) Compliance with state or federal regulations of the Injury Prevention and Safety Training Program.
Other Duties as Assigned:
1) Perform other duties as assigned
2) Attend staff meetings and education activities
3) Able to work overtime with little or no notice
4) Good communication skills.
5) Understand and follow DaVita patient and employee policy and procedure.
6) Ability to lift minimum 35 pounds, and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, and use full range of body motions.
