Charge Nurse (RN) Med/Surg/Telemetry (Nights)
Reports To: Manager, Patient Care Services
OBJECTIVE:
To direct and supervise patient care unit and provide for efficient, safe patient care operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs all duties and responsibilities and meets requirements for Staff Nurse – Med/Surg, Telemetry.
Develop, implement and monitor procedures and guidelines to ensure the smooth operation of patient care units within policy guidelines established by the institution.
Ensure proper supervision on shift, and coordination of nursing staff across shifts to provide uninterrupted patient care.
Precepts new employees, serves as a mentor and role model.
Provides unit-based education.
Maintains working knowledge of all patients on unit. Is aware of patient conditions and intervenes as appropriate.
Serves as a resource for staff nurses on duty.
Oversees patient flow in patient care and support areas.
Communicates with physicians as the representative of administration.
Makes shift to shift staffing reallocation decisions and communicates them to units as appropriate based on staffing grids and clinical circumstances at hand.
Consults with various departments and physicians for appropriate patient bed assignments for optimal patient care.
Manages administrative issues effectively, informs and documents pertinent information to Administrator on Call, executive staff, directors, and managers.
Communicates organizational policy information in a respectful and positive way.
Attends hospital and departmental meetings and participates in interdepartmental activities, task forces, and committees.
Maintains high visibility through hospital and unit rounding.
Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards.
Utilizes excellent patient/customer service principles.
Demonstrates the components of the values and mission of the hospital.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:Associate degree in Nursing required, bachelor’s preferred.EXPERIENCE:Minimum of four years prior nursing experience, two years of charge nurse or team lead experience preferred. Recent related experience in inpatient hospital/acute care setting preferred.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:Texas State Licensed Nurse by an accredited school of nursing required.
BCLS required.
ACLS and PALS (or equivalent) preferred.
