Cancer Data Analyst I

Position finds cases, codes topography and histology, stages AJCC and General Summary, grade, abstracts, follows and enters quality data into the shared cancer data bases; learns and applies regulations/requirements for Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (accreditation, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (licensure), SC Cancer Registry Act (DHEC – SC Central Cancer Registry), and American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (approval).Key Responsibilities:
•Abstracts cancer cases in accordance with FORDS data standards, utilizing ICD-0-3 coding, SEER Summary staging, and AJCC Staging, with 85% accuracy.
•Abstracts minimum of 350 cancer cases within a calendar year.
•Communicates with physicians and other providers to ensure accuracy of data base.
•Participates in quality improvement activities.

REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelors Degree preferably in Cancer Information Management or Health Information Management and/or combination of work experience/education/skill as determined by the manager/director.Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in cancer registry, health information management, or other healthcare related field.Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: CTR (Certified Tumor Registrar) preferred; SC Drivers license and insurance.Special Training: Good working knowledge medical terminology; anatomy and physiology; effective communication skills; computer data base skills.
