Biomedical Technician - (Garland) - (HE32862-2286-TX)

Biomedical Equipment Technician

Exemption: Non-Exempt

work schedule is Mon-Sat(Varies).

Summary:

The Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing all dialysis machines, water treatment and ancillary medical equipment.

Qualifications:

1) High school graduate.

2) Associate of Arts in electronics preferred.

3) Minimum of one year experience as a dialysis technician preferred.

4) Minimum of one year experience in the repair and maintenance of dialysis equipment preferred.

5) Attained appropriate certification as required by law.

6) Demonstrate good communication and teaching skills.

7) Must have valid drivers' license in state of employment.

8) Driving record must meet insurance liability requirements.

Essential Job Functions:

Equipment maintenance/operation:
1) Repair and maintain, with support documentation, dialysis systems, R.O. water systems, reuse equipment, and ancillary medical equipment as recommended by the equipment manufacture's specifications.

2) Perform electrical safety assurance and performance testing on all dialysis machines and related electrical equipment.

3) Provide the following training to Reuse Technicians:

a) Initial training for new technicians.

b) Certification of each reuse technician as competent to perform reuse.

4) Monitor R.O. system and log sheet, no less than weekly, for completeness and accuracy, noting any deviations from normal.

Risk Management / Quality Compliance:

1) Perform monthly biomedical audit and document findings to ensure that dialysis staff are following company policies and procedures.

2) Perform building safety inspections to assure compliance of applicable federal, state, local laws and regulations.

3) Serve as a member of and attend Quality Improvement Committee meetings and Advisory Committee meetings.

4) Compliance with state or federal regulations of the Injury Prevention and Safety Training Program.

Financial Management:

1) Maintain limited parts inventory and assure inventory levels of test re-agents.

2) Discuss maintenance problems with the Division Biomedical Administrator/Area Biomedical Coordinator and Facility Administrator and make cost effective recommendations for improvements. Monitor/control expenses for dialysis equipment.

Other duties as assigned:

1) Able to work overtime with little or no warning.

2) Attend staff meetings and educational activities.

3) Perform ongoing training to dialysis personnel on the entire water system. This includes guidelines on the emergency procedures for water system failure.

4) Participate in on-site ESRD surveys and inspections by state and federal surveyors.

5) Assist the Facility Administrator in providing instruction to dialysis personnel on the proper operation and utilization of dialysis equipment and systems.

6) Provide twenty-four hour on-call coverage as assigned.

7) On request, assist the facility administrator in determining the need for facility repairs and maintenance. On an emergency basis only provide repair or maintenance service.

8) Provide training to dialysis personnel on taking of water cultures and LAL's to ensure water quality meets AAMI microbiological standards, follow-up and resolution of abnormal culture and LAL results.

9) Upgrade R.O. water treatment systems to DaVita standards under the direction of the Division Biomedical Administrator/Area Biomedical Coordinator.

10) Initiate follow-up and resolution of abnormal formaldehyde and peracetic acid in air test results.

11) Ability to lift minimum weight of 35 pounds, and able to perform, and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, and use full range of body motions.

12) Understand and follow DaVita policy and procedures as related to either patient care or employment.

13) Practice considerate, respectful manner towards patients.
14) Other duties as assigned.
