Applications Developer - Cerner/ RN

The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago is committed to strategic initiatives in which Information Systems will play a pivotal role both in providing systems support and in being an integral part of future services offered to the Institute’s patients and clients.

Develops and supports RIC’s software applications. Designs, codes/configures, tests, implements and supports existing and future software applications in the healthcare environment. Actively participates in implementing Cerner Millenium modules. Develops software in a timely and cost-effective manner utilizing RIC’s development methodology as dictated by the Applications Development Manager. Lead software implementation and/or upgrade projects as required.

Job Responsibilities
1. Provide primary support for Cerner Capstone Scheduling Management, ProVision Document Imaging, Health Information Management (ProFile) and Medical Transcription Management modules.

2. Work with clinical and business users to understand functional requirements and develop appropriate solutions.

3. Develop system design specifications taking into consideration the provision of quality patient care, user needs, and potential for cost savings through the reduction of work steps.

4. Develop detailed test plans and execute tests/scripts to verify user requirements.

5. As directed by the Applications Development Manager, enhance existing application software to deliver System Change Requests (SCRs) for users.

6.Provide on-call, off-hours support as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
Job Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in clinical specialty or Computer Science with clinical experience. Registered Nurse preferred. Appropriate certifications and/or Information Systems experience may replace traditional educational requirements.

2. At least two years experience in an Information Systems role implementing and/or supporting Cerner Millennium.

3. Analytical skills necessary to analyze business problems and apply technology to resolve issues and/or increase operational efficiency of the patient care process.

5. Personal computer skills necessary to prepare flowcharts, presentations, design specifications, test plans, project plans, etc.

6. Experience with Windows 2000/XP, SQL and Cerner CCL scripting is highly desirable.
