Windows Administrator II

In coordination with Government's Help Desk staff, the Contractor Systems Administrator (CSA) for this position is responsible for managing: (1) Web services for The National Map, (2) Web Services for The National Atlas (3) Web services for the Antarctic, Disease Information Modeling, and E-Web Programs. The CSA shall interface with users, vendor support personnel, and hardware technicians. The CSA should be familiar with all technical support activities and be able to work independently on assigned tasks, with minimal assistance and guidance. The CSA shall support assigned tasks during non-prime hours, if necessary. The following duties shall be performed in support of the Help Desk:
REQUIREMENTS
Responsible for set up, configuration, implementation, backup, and management of Web servers. This includes a contingency plan for recovery following a catastrophic system failure.
System support for development of applications and data associated with the Web services.
Assist Government personnel with all system related problems.
Work with Help Desk staff in insuring network and systems connectivity for all systems.
Assist with design, development, testing, implementation, documentation, and user assistance for web applications.
Monitors critical computer systems for availability, intrusion detection, and operating system performance. Resolves any problems and reports status to the GIO Help Desk.
Research, develop specifications, recommend, design, build, and implement firewalls in support of system activities.
Perform other duties and overtime as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

At least two (2) years as a Systems Administrator on PC-based operating systems including Windows NT/2000/2003. At least one (1) year of experience with administration and management of Web servers. Solaris and Linux experience desirable. Sufficient knowledge and familiarity with Apache WWW server software is desirable. Experience with ESRI's Arc/Info, ArcView, and/or MapObjects would also be desirable.

Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field. Experience may be substituted for education with USGS approval.
