WATER CONSERVATION SPECIALIST (Public Information Specialist)
Tucson Water Department
Grade: 918 Salary: $17.77 - $27.62 per hour

This position serves as the main public liaison for the Tucson Water Commercial and Landscape Water Conservation Program. Work requires considerable exercise of initiative and independent judgment and may involve the supervision of assigned personnel. This position may also require occasional weekend and evening work.

Some examples of the essential tasks are:
Creates detailed maps by reviewing plans, zoning applications, and related materials
Develops and disseminates public information materials
Assists with the development and implementation of education/training programs
Drafts news releases, conducts public presentations and prepares program reports
Conducts landscape water audits and provides other technical field support
Responds to customer inquiries and media requests regarding outdoor water use
Assists with the planning, determination, development and implementation of short and long range public information planning

REQUIREMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Horticulture, Natural Sciences or a related field plus three years experience in public information and/or education work with an emphasis in outdoor or commercial water conservation, landscape/irrigation design and/or maintenance, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities. Certification as a Landscape Water Auditor is required within one year of hire. The ability to speak Spanish is highly desired.
