New York City's fastest growing Department, the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) is a nationally recognized provider of customer serviced based IT solutions and services. DoITT provides an array of services to other City agencies as well as directly to the citizens of New York through the 3-1-1 Citizen Services Center, NYC TV, NYC.gov, and its GIS, Data Center and Telecom Divisions.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsibilities will include:
Design, build, execute testing and deployment of system enhancements and upgrades;
Follow procedures related to systems development of the DoITT SUN environment;
Systems incident responses, tracking, and escalation for all UNIX systems related to implementation and systems builds, including system patch and hardware maintenance and application and patch upgrades;
Monitor and resolve security alerts;
24x7 support of all UNIX infrastructure;
Change management and Configuration management;
Monitor file system security;
Install and maintain Sun Solaris equipment (including F15K servers);
Sun Solaris administration, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, kernel tuning, user administration, system security, process control, file system tuning, hardware configuration, system performance tuning, disk management, custom package creation, shell scripting, fine grain access control (sudo/RBAC), and general UNIX systems administration;
System concepts, clients/server environment;
Solaris network environment and remote connectivity;
Syslog configuration NFS, NIS, LDAP.
DoITT maintains a mixed environment of Solaris 8 and Solaris 9.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
6-8 years experience Solaris administration;
Experience in larger scale SUN data center operations and technical architecture and design highly desirable;
Strong communication skills;
Knowledge of Veritas Volume Manager and file system installation and administration;
Veritas Cluster Server installation and configuration;
iPlanet Web Server installation and configuration;
Siebel Server installation and configuration;
Experience with Sun Enterprise Servers (especially 10k, 12k, and/or 15k); Sun storEdge 6900 series storage.
CIVIL SERVICE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Professional/vendor certification(s) in local area network administration that is required for the position to be filled.
Required Vendor Certification:
Sun Certified Administrator for the Solaris Operating System (Solaris 9 or 8) or Sun Certified Network Administrator for the Solaris Operating System (Solaris 9 or 8). Candidates should possess at least one.
In addition, all candidates must have the following:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory, full-time (not classroom based) experience in local area network planning, design, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management;
-OR-
A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory, full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in '1' above;
-OR-
A master’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college may substitute for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory (not classroom based) full-time information technology experience as described in '1' above.
Note: In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements, incumbents may be required to update existing and/or obtain additional professional industry-standard certification(s) for current and future technical environments(s) in which they may be assigned to work, as determined by the employing agency.
